Organized in 1998, the Transgender Foundation of America (TFA) is a Houston-based grass-roots nonprofit organization that obtained its 501c3 nonprofit status in 2001. TFA was brought into existence through the hard work and support its parent organization, the Gulf Coast Transgender Community (GCTC) which traces its roots back to 1965. In addition to TFA, GCTC was instrumental in organizing pioneering organizations like the Texas Association for Transsexual Support (TATS) and events like the International Conference on Transgender Law and Employment Policy. GCTC's spirit lives on in the TFA mission of improving the quality of life for transgender people.
For over 25 years, GLAAD has worked with news, entertainment and social media to bring culture-changing stories of LGBT people into millions of homes and workplaces every day. Why? Because words and images matter.
For decades, PFLAG has been proud to be a resource for transgender and gender non-conforming people, their families and friends. Knowledge is power. Listen to your loved one and educate yourself. The more you know about various transgender and gender non-conforming narratives and experiences, the more you will be able to provide the kind of love and support necessary to help them grow and lead a dignified and healthy life. PFLAG Houston schedule of meetings and support resources.
The Transgender Center of Houston: This TG Center is not only the first of it's kind in history, it is also the only one of it's kind in existence anywhere in the world. The Center houses the TFA Archive of Transgender History, most all transgender meetings and activities within the Houston area and serves as the home office of TFA from which our organization provides transgender social services.
